Shade
an ominous day
dark clouds pass before the sun
portents of ruin
–
stippled hillsides
revealing light and
fleeting shadows
an ominous day
dark clouds pass before the sun
portents of ruin
–
stippled hillsides
revealing light and
fleeting shadows
thin walls, raised voices
across the street, it’s last call
in my third floor flat
–
crow on a gaslight
fog blanketing
cobblestones
an afternoon walk
the shuffling of footsteps
through the fallen leaves
–
a quiet brook
the sharp snap
of a dry twig
awash in the tide
a ruined galleon lists
her cannons askew
–
prevailing winds
limping home
on torn sails
a symbol of strength
welcoming travelers that
seek her destruction
–
in the forest
of fallen oaks
a sapling grows
not quite a woman
and yet no longer a girl
searching for her path
–
fresh snow
treading lightly
in your footprints
alone in the woods
dry rustling leaves in the wind
the snap of a twig
–
sear grasses
fueling the
inevitable
splintering sunlight
golden arrow shafts quiver
piercing the water
–
the dog days
interrupted by
shattered glass
clinging to the light
for fear I may yet answer
when the darkness calls
–
spring rains
surging cataracts
once docile streams
slow rhythmic moonlight
shining across the surface
of a mountain lake
–
an old rope swings
calm lake water
before the fall
