Prudence
my better judgement
failing me once again for
momentary bliss
–
late summer-
the prayers
of the mantis
my better judgement
failing me once again for
momentary bliss
–
late summer-
the prayers
of the mantis
the frayed rope, broken
bubbles breaking the surface
of the swimming hole
–
sweet spring air-
off a chestnut branch
a stout rope swings
beauty and horror
entwined around each other
in a spider’s web
–
morning mist-
time passes
red on black
it’s been a long ride-
this road’s often difficult
but worth the journey
–
apple blossoms-
taken by the
wandering wind
endlessly sifting
the detritus of the day
while sleep eludes me
–
an unkempt sky –
wind driven surf
pounds the shore
the scars on your soul-
mementos of battles fought
but never quite won
–
broken silence-
the distant crash
of rutting bucks
staring at myself
the mirror reflecting my
wasted innocence
–
shoeless-
a ragged doll
on dusty road
a banging screen door
the ghosts of conversations
echo in the wind
–
merciless sun –
the empty ring
of wind chimes
leave this all behind
take my hand and run with me
into the new dawn
–
sunrise-
wind blown leaves
cross my path
lashed tight to the mast-
tempted by the siren song
of just one more drink
–
steaming pavement-
distant sirens bay
at the full moon
