Memories
in the dark shadows
cobwebs cling to memories
of a distant past
–
winter stubble-
remnants of
my father
in the dark shadows
cobwebs cling to memories
of a distant past
–
winter stubble-
remnants of
my father
as the fog rolls in
skeletons of spectral trees
fade into the night
–
foggy evening-
gnarled branches
scratch at my window
as the sun rises
I try once more to forget
the sins of my past
–
spring evening-
frogs still
as I walk past
these nameless corpses
stacked upon one another
bear witness to war
–
cobalt sky-
birds nest in
the shattered roof
offer me darkness
and take me to the places
I would never go
–
gnarled trees-
green eyes glow
in the shadows
unspeakable acts-
unlearned lessons of the past
repeating again
–
cattle cars-
disappear within
the gates of hell
dusty fountain pens-
drawers full of love letters she
never meant to send
–
in the stacks-
quietly I try
to catch your eye
flat black soulless eyes
devoid of humanity
staring back at me
–
cold city street-
trying not to see
the homeless
angry bitter tears
burn as they roll down her face
and fall to the dirt
–
arid fields-
dust gathers
around his feet
a cold waiting room-
absolutely terrified
of what will come next
–
eyes closed-
the taste of salt
in my veins
