Cirque

high above the ground-
defying gravity while
wrapped in flowing silk

empty fairgrounds-
torn and faded canvas
flaps in the wind

Journey

wrapped in white linen-
a flight of doves foreshadow
this final journey

evening shadows-
the winding road
into darkness

Sere

a cruel summer sun
the earth blistering beneath
her withering gaze

abandoned-
once fertile soil
becomes as dust

Blackbird

curling ocean waves-
the blackbird’s white feathered wings
touch an azure sky

glass dipped in frost-
a magpie taps
at my window

Liar

a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light

silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths

Rain

staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog

scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late

Chaos

river clay and dust
takes on a life of its own
much to my chagrin

pounding rain-
the stream a torrent
of mud and debris

Kristallnacht

pale silver moonlight
captured in the broken glass
strewn across the street

autum eve-
crickets silenced
by shattering glass

Waiting

my bedside vigil-
each moment slipping away
taking you with them

machines hum-
outside your window
a starless night

Danger

sitting at the bar-
beautiful and dangerous
death in a red dress

mangrove trees-
crocodiles
come and go
