Change

as the sun descends
she draws the curtain of night
to unveil the moon

angry lovers-
the evening sun
sets the sky aflame

Hushed

the sounds of fresh snow
falling in the near darkness
sibilant whispers

snowfall-
lost in quiet
conversation

Chill

lazy curls of steam
glowing in the rays of the
slanting winter sun

the north wind-
warming my hands
on a hot cup of tea

Halcyon

on a gilded throne
far from the unwashed masses
counting his money

gauzy clouds-
spreading gold
on the ocean

Rain

becoming August
fevered skin, heat lightning, and
the promise of rain

an azure pond-
fish break the surface
amid the evening rain

Marriage

falling off my bike
I become one with the earth
for just a moment

june twilight-
our vows float away
on paper lanterns

Carving

left in a doorway
the simple offering of
a small jade Buddha

the slanting sun-
putting to bed the
last work of the day

Rising

frost on the windows-
heat from the radiator
rustles the curtains

warm boots-
glowing embers
adrift in the smoke

Lovers

life can be fickle
hold your lover close tonight
before it’s too late

a darkened doorway-
your soft lips hard
against mine

Winter

as winter arrives
fog seeps into the valley
under a veiled moon

harvest moon-
the arthritic fingers
of barren trees
