Candle

stone walls and dirt floors-
candle flames cling to their wicks
throwing dark shadows

straw bedding-
a tallow candle’s
uneasy light

Frost

icy autumn breath
a sliver of the full moon
gazes down on me

morning run-
frozen leaves
crunch underfoot

Plummet

disoriented
twisted, I fall through my dreams
and land in my bed

ephemeral-
fire across
the evening sky

Chill

late autumn evenings-
tarnished copper trees framing
skies of polished bronze

crisp air-
hunting in
the night sky

Colors

sunset on the lake
threading my wet fingers through
tangerine waters

salmon skies-
october morning
the hills ablaze

Light

glowing in the dark
the distant lights, reflections
off Jamaica bay

twilight-
each firefly
tells a story

Confusion

worn and creaky stairs-
cobwebs draped in the corners
of her addled mind

rising fog-
a futile search
for clarity

Star

how can one be blind
to the light that shines within
your beautiful soul

orion-
etching of
the evening sky

Decline

a chance encounter
just glimpse of your face then
you’re lost in the crowd

incoming tide-
all these memories
built on sand

Reflection

a golden eagle-
soaring as the sun sinks on
a cumbrian lake

reflections-
autumn leaves
in the water
