Distance
from a different life
the passing of an old friend
rests on my shoulders
–
moonrise-
a silver wind
sways the curtains
from a different life
the passing of an old friend
rests on my shoulders
–
moonrise-
a silver wind
sways the curtains
waiting on my turn-
step by step moving forward
ever so slowly
–
traffic-
another day
turns to night
caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head
–
evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath
sitting on my couch
not sure if I can get up
after shoveling
–
rabbit tracks-
a snowy owl
motionless
shrinking from the light
blended into the shadows
I’m invisible
–
dusk-
black clouds
rise from the earth
the solar transit
far to brief indeed on this
winter solstice day
–
winter reborn-
I depart and return
in darkness
the sharp metal screech
of the trolley’s brakes snaps me
from my reverie
–
silver moonlight-
a screech owl perched
outside my window
embers burning low-
on the rim of my wine glass
crimson lipstick stains
–
lingering-
ruby lips and
a good bordeaux
by her bedroom door
listening to my daughter
cry herself to sleep
–
leafless boughs-
no resistance to
the howling winds
from across the room
I catch sight of your face and
my breath escapes me
–
waiting in a queue-
plumes of breath
and exhaust
