Shadows

moonlight in the trees-
silently a cold wind shifts
shadows on the snow

long shadows-
the warm wind
walks me home

Stone

building my fortress
I bury my emotions
beneath the first stone

cacophony-
late night frogs
in my stone walls

Sails

white on shades of blue-
the day ends as sailors tire
of chasing the wind

moonlight-
sailboats crease
the black water

Death

my soul recoils from
the cold skeletal touch of
the angel of death

twilight-
fireflies lead me
across the river

Dusk

as venus rises
the sun on the horizon
sets the trees aglow

western fires-
too soon dowsed
by a deluge of stars

Return

the lobsterman’s wife
watching the lighthouse at the
dying of the day

silent passage-
darkening water
laps the shore

Escape

alone on the road
speeding towards oblivion
far away from you

velvet panic-
our safe word
forgotten

Aged

his paper thin skin
stretched across arthritic hands
so easily bruised

a spreading elm-
our initials
overgrown

Mortality

pale whispers of men
pass by along the river
rowing in silence

walking stick in hand-
my footprints
fading

Over

watching you suffer
affords me none of the joy
I was expecting

blood moon-
packing my bags
while you sleep
