Music

rhapsody in blue-
the crush of humanity
just outside my ears

the subway shuttle-
a ragged busker
bows his violin

Sensuous

crimson fingernails
lightly drawn along my skin
leaving ghostly trails

rain streaked windows-
we agree
on safe words

Night

withered autumn leaves-
not sure if he’ll live to see
another sunrise

desert stars-
hard and blue
in the moonlight

Stones

an old foundation
reclaimed by a forest of
thickly tangled vines

blowing snow-
winds sing in
the chimney

Homesick

strange muted voices
filtered through thin hotel walls
keeping me awake

overcast-
alone again
far from home

Stone

so many evenings
spent in stony solitude
with yet without you

rain etched stones-
the once neat path
overgrown

Betrayal

lying here in bed
unnbeknownst to you your trust
already betrayed

heavy fog-
your train leaves
without me

Gathering

winter moths gather-
snowflakes lit by the street lamp
in the bitter night

gathering drifts-
ice crawls up
my window

Wind

the fire laid on while
winter in all its fury
rages at my door

grey skies-
cruel winter winds
howl at the moon

Drunk

pour me another
for I’m not yet numb enough
to make new mistakes

darkling beetles-
drunk on the
morning dew
