Moon

the low western sun-
surrounding the rising moon
a golden halo

thunder rolls-
dark clouds pass
before the moon

Deer

off the mountain road
a wake of buzzards gather
‘round a fallen deer

moonrise-
the fawn waits
in the tall grass

City

a dank feeble breeze-
the rumble of the el train
passing my window

distant sirens-
my room awash
in a neon glow

Campfire

telling ghost stories-
embers on the rising smoke
mixing with the stars

distant howls-
another log
feeds the fire

Desert

sedona night skies-
a desert scorpion crawls
across my bedroll

campfire-
embers rise to greet
the desert stars

Color

late afternoon breeze-
a cardinal feeds his mate
seeds from my garden

morning sunlight-
dogwood brides
dressed in white

Splinter

rid of you at last
cut from where you’d gotten lodged
just under my skin

last year’s maple leaves-
splinters from a
prior life

Rain

the end of the rain-
I pull back layers of clouds
to reveal the stars

petrichor-
storm clouds
in a puddle

Eclipse

encroaching darkness-
a blue moon wanders across
the path of the sun

approaching night-
a bat flies across
the moon

Tide

the slow push of surf-
a lighthouse in the distance
obscured by the fog

distant foghorns
cairns lost
to the tide
