Folly

these poorly built walls
of isolationism
so easily breached

a spreading oak
the cat awaits
her safe descent

Danger

a clandestine tryst
made all the more exciting
by the recklessness

high desert sun
entwined eagles
fall to the earth

FUD

a misty red haze
growing stronger feeding on
hate, fear, and anger

cold rain
wolves circle
a wounded deer

Exhausted

physically drained
emotionally wiped out
I have no spoons left

driftwood
beaten by
the surf

Joy

old creases deepen
as a smile comes unbidden
to his weathered face

morning glory
blossom opens
to greet the sun

Rescue

the moon overhead
a toad lifted from the lane
sitting in my hand

walking together
for the first time
your hand finds mine

Beneath

hatred is poison
turning ignorance and fear
into pure evil

meandering river
crocodiles wait
just below the surface

Colors

shades from dark to pale
each made up of the other
standing arm in arm

frigid night
streaks of fire
light the sky

Courtship

nervously sitting
in the theatre next to him
thighs almost touching

peacocks
dancing in the
monsoon rains

Humanity

black and blue and bruised
pinned to the ropes but fighting
for our very souls

a hard rain
drenches all
with no regard
