Love

the smile on your lips
reaches deep into your eyes
and into my heart

darkness-
reaching out
for your hand

Missing

picking at breakfast
sitting across the table
from the ghost of you

wilted flowers-
your whisper
in my ear

Extinguish

searching for a trace
of the light behind your eyes
but making my peace

afterimage-
the candle
doused

Realizations

I’ve struggled so long
stumbling through the darkness
blinded by the truth

awakening-
the light of
a false dawn

Rememberence

thoughts of the fallen-
those who purchased our freedoms
with their flesh and blood

old glory-
a red haze blinding
the dogs of war

Crossing

hand in hand with you
standing by the river’s edge
watching the drawbridge

tinted sunlight-
walking across
a fallen tree

Watching

my ghosted reflection-
grey faces in the windows
of the passing train

stunning vistas-
guardrails floating
above the road

Frustration

my anger rising
holding back my tongue
while I try to breathe

irritation –
ring tails slip
into the shadows

River

standing on the bridge
cold wind blowing through his coat
patiently waiting

a lover’s kiss-
the river opens
to greet the sea

Rising

staying up all night
just to fall asleep with you
and the breaking dawn

frogs in the trees-
rising woodsmoke
staining the sunset
