Memories

in the dark shadows
cobwebs cling to memories
of a distant past

winter stubble-
remnants of
my father

Silence

as the sun rises
I try once more to forget
the sins of my past

spring evening-
frogs still
as I walk past

White

slices of the moon
slivered through the window blinds
drape across your back

snowy owl-
cold branches
in the dead of night

Misdirection

a silver quarter
rolling between my fingers-
practice makes perfect

trafalgar square-
the red queen
hiding

Darkness

offer me darkness
and take me to the places
I would never go

gnarled trees-
green eyes glow
in the shadows

Cowgirl

sawdust on the floor-
the earthy aroma of
horse manure and hay

a saddle blanket-
riding bareback
in the tall grass

Wind

leaning back eyes closed
listening to the whitecaps
as they roll on shore

salt spray-
roaring wind
in my ears

Spring

this bitter old man
remnants of his acid breath
at last behind us

open windows-
daffodils
break the soil

Shoah

unspeakable acts-
unlearned lessons of the past
repeating again

cattle cars-
disappear within
the gates of hell

Missed

dusty fountain pens-
drawers full of love letters she
never meant to send

in the stacks-
quietly I try
to catch your eye
