Morning

freshly brewed coffee-
the morning sky hidden by
pebbled leather clouds

warm blankets-
coyotes chatter
before sunrise

Kayaking

a line of turtles
asleep on a fallen log
as I float on by

flat water-
silently
making waves

Smith

muscle and sinew-
soot stained and glistening from
the heat of the forge

shimmering heat-
the cold ring of
hammer on steel

Desert

sedona night skies-
a desert scorpion crawls
across my bedroll

campfire-
embers rise to greet
the desert stars

Rainfall

weeping cherry trees
pink and white blossoms sodden
with the sudden rain

spring rains-
dogwood blooms
floating by

Desert

overnight snowfall
blankets the desert landscape
of sand and sagebrush

condors overhead-
remnants of snow
in cactus shadows

Rain

the end of the rain-
I pull back layers of clouds
to reveal the stars

petrichor-
storm clouds
in a puddle

Spirit

passing the graveyard-
a pale white lady rises
from tendrils of fog

solemn silence-
hands clasped
in a circle

Cats

wind at the windows-
as I move to tend the fire
the cat takes my seat

late winter morn-
my calico sleeps
in a patch of sun

Tide

the slow push of surf-
a lighthouse in the distance
obscured by the fog

distant foghorns
cairns lost
to the tide
