Moonlight
an open window-
she disrobes in the shadows
to bathe in moonlight
–
the hunter’s moon-
a dryad hidden
in her tree
an open window-
she disrobes in the shadows
to bathe in moonlight
–
the hunter’s moon-
a dryad hidden
in her tree
staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog
–
scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late
river clay and dust
takes on a life of its own
much to my chagrin
–
pounding rain-
the stream a torrent
of mud and debris
the cruel midday sun-
neat rows of old cars in their
final rusting place
–
high noon-
steam billows from
my open hood
grey dying embers-
on rising smoke the campfire
draws its final breath
–
evening dew-
cooling ashes and
echoes of laughter
in the western sky
the sun sets on iron clouds
promising thunder
–
leaves in the wind-
the low rumble
of distant thunder
my back turned to you-
pretending to be asleep as
you climb into bed
–
angry clouds-
blue skies
forgotten
unexpected rain-
a brief but welcome respite
from the summer heat
–
clearing skies-
the gift of
a rainbow
on the veranda-
fog slowly climbs the steps on
this soft starless night
–
walking the moon-
a thin fog blankets
fallen gravestones
a rain-soaked highway-
the skeletal hand of fate
cuts another thread
–
trapped in amber-
mountains are as
grains of sand
