Moonlight

an open window-
she disrobes in the shadows
to bathe in moonlight

the hunter’s moon-
a dryad hidden
in her tree

Rain

staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog

scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late

Chaos

river clay and dust
takes on a life of its own
much to my chagrin

pounding rain-
the stream a torrent
of mud and debris

Desert

the cruel midday sun-
neat rows of old cars in their
final rusting place

high noon-
steam billows from
my open hood

Fire

grey dying embers-
on rising smoke the campfire
draws its final breath

evening dew-
cooling ashes and
echoes of laughter

Storm

in the western sky
the sun sets on iron clouds
promising thunder

leaves in the wind-
the low rumble
of distant thunder

Change

my back turned to you-
pretending to be asleep as
you climb into bed

angry clouds-
blue skies
forgotten

Rain

unexpected rain-
a brief but welcome respite
from the summer heat

clearing skies-
the gift of
a rainbow

Fog

on the veranda-
fog slowly climbs the steps on
this soft starless night

walking the moon-
a thin fog blankets
fallen gravestones

Time

a rain-soaked highway-
the skeletal hand of fate
cuts another thread

trapped in amber-
mountains are as
grains of sand
