Night

cold drops of silver
spill into the open mouth
of the crescent moon

starlight-
a barn owl glides
through leafless trees

Falling

standing before you
silent and overexposed
awaiting judgement

whitecaps-
riding the edge
of an avalanche

Rain

becoming August
fevered skin, heat lightning, and
the promise of rain

an azure pond-
fish break the surface
amid the evening rain

Anticipation

sitting on the dock
losing patience waiting for
my ship to come in

a cold hard rain-
the dog brings
her leash

Marriage

falling off my bike
I become one with the earth
for just a moment

june twilight-
our vows float away
on paper lanterns

Scorched

before the thunder
a flash of jagged lightning
frozen in the snow

august sagebrush-
ravenous flames
insatiable

Falling

sprinting to your door
the rain soaked newspaper held
just over my head

staccato whispers-
light rain falling
through the trees

Willow

a warm southern breeze
long willow boughs sway gently
caressing the earth

spring rains-
the willow’s soft tears
darken the ground

Winter

as winter arrives
fog seeps into the valley
under a veiled moon

harvest moon-
the arthritic fingers
of barren trees

Freedom

standing at the bow
salt spray drenching your sundress
the sun in your hair

terns on the wing-
flecks of sea foam
floating gently past
