Autumn

summer in decline
the first fragments of autumn
strewn across my lawn

open windows-
under my blanket
flannel sheets

Fury

standing on the dock
raising high my glass, toasting
the impending storm

rusty hinges-
a garden gate
bangs in the night

Journey

exploring the world
starting with the common ground
found beneath my feet

fading sunlight-
stone steps
along my path

Snare

trapped in the darkness
never wanting to leave this
beautiful nightmare

hoarfrost-
webs frozen
on the moor

Tao

living day by day
striving to open my mind
and keep my mouth shut

nests amid the rafters-
prayer bells ring
in the rain

Heat

my temper flares up
in the heat of the moment
yet I’m the one burned

desert sun-
my ego buried
in the sand

Houston

hoping against hope
to stem the incoming tide
and still it rises

august-
forsaken
by the sun

Fire

ashes in the air
embers of glowing orange
peering through the flames

quiet laughter-
coals dying
in the night

Eclipse

jealous of our affections
in full view of everyone
the moon steals the sun

midday-
the spotlight
stolen

Community

surrounded by friends
sitting around the campfire
retelling old tales

clearing skies-
broken branches
new neighbors
