Autumn
summer in decline
the first fragments of autumn
strewn across my lawn
–
open windows-
under my blanket
flannel sheets
summer in decline
the first fragments of autumn
strewn across my lawn
–
open windows-
under my blanket
flannel sheets
standing on the dock
raising high my glass, toasting
the impending storm
–
rusty hinges-
a garden gate
bangs in the night
exploring the world
starting with the common ground
found beneath my feet
–
fading sunlight-
stone steps
along my path
trapped in the darkness
never wanting to leave this
beautiful nightmare
–
hoarfrost-
webs frozen
on the moor
living day by day
striving to open my mind
and keep my mouth shut
–
nests amid the rafters-
prayer bells ring
in the rain
my temper flares up
in the heat of the moment
yet I’m the one burned
–
desert sun-
my ego buried
in the sand
hoping against hope
to stem the incoming tide
and still it rises
–
august-
forsaken
by the sun
ashes in the air
embers of glowing orange
peering through the flames
–
quiet laughter-
coals dying
in the night
jealous of our affections
in full view of everyone
the moon steals the sun
–
midday-
the spotlight
stolen
surrounded by friends
sitting around the campfire
retelling old tales
–
clearing skies-
broken branches
new neighbors
