Gouache

curling photographs-
remnants of an age gone by
taped to my mirror

sepia trees-
winter morning’s
gentle light

Risk

the time has come to
take my heart down off the shelf
and gift it to you

long winter shadows-
a snowshoe hare
braves the sun

History

cracks in the pavement
mirrored by the crows feet in
a homeless man’s face

ruins-
ivy climbs
crumbling walls

Ice

long icicles cling
tenaciously to the rocks
and flow to the ground

ice jam
the rising waters
chill my soul

Shower

caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head

evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath

Snow

sitting on my couch
not sure if I can get up
after shoveling

rabbit tracks-
a snowy owl
motionless

Solstice

the solar transit
far to brief indeed on this
winter solstice day

winter reborn-
I depart and return
in darkness

Transformation

seeking inner peace
yearning to quench the darkness
that burns in my soul

wildfires-
a cold late
autumn rain

Overtaken

shutting out the crowd
absolutely enthralled by
the shape of your words

rising moon-
night rolls over
the winter hills

Predawn

ahead of the dawn
plodding bleary eyed into
an ashen twilight

flannel sheets-
coyotes barking
before the sunrise
