Sleep
bone tired and weary
my eyes close and I pray for
the sleep of the dead
–
falling-
engulfed by darkness
deep and dreamless
bone tired and weary
my eyes close and I pray for
the sleep of the dead
–
falling-
engulfed by darkness
deep and dreamless
trapped in the darkness
never wanting to leave this
beautiful nightmare
–
hoarfrost-
webs frozen
on the moor
faded love letters
the pages of our marriage
dog-eared and wrinkled
–
mulled cider-
clothes fresh
from the dryer
i look at myself
and listen to my own lies
praying that they’re true
–
reflections-
outside my window
a magpie
open to the cold
exposed and vulnerable
naked and alone
–
new life-
tempted
by the light
naked in the sun
draped in caribbean light
among the seashells
–
abalone-
the warm glow
of auburn skin
giggling children
burying my feet in warm
caribbean sands
–
shearwaters-
palms fronds
in the breeze
your head on my chest
my face buried in your hair
breathing in your scent
–
the witching hour-
watching your heart
softly beating
the face of the moon
in the company of stars
greets me as I wake
–
dream weaving-
pale ghosts of trees
in the moonlight
my bed calls to me
impossible to ignore
but yet I still try
–
waxing moon-
gliding down
on silent wings
