Beneath
barefoot in the grass-
the rhythm of seasons
under her sundress
–
daydream-
warm sunlight
under my skin
barefoot in the grass-
the rhythm of seasons
under her sundress
–
daydream-
warm sunlight
under my skin
mired in the past
endlessly forced to repeat
the sins of my youth
–
born of fire-
ashes rise
into the night
autumn morning light
wanders in through the curtains-
your slow even breath
–
darkness-
waking to
a sudden rain
waiting for the sun
thready morning clouds make way
for her arrival
–
open windows-
awake before
the alarm
staring at myself
I see that I have become
what I feared the most
–
predawn-
coming awake
in a stranger’s mind
low, the morning moon
full behind the breaking clouds
glowing in the sun
–
pumpkins on the vine-
the eastern sky
full of promise
a chance encounter
just glimpse of your face then
you’re lost in the crowd
–
incoming tide-
all these memories
built on sand
I won’t bet my life
on a roll of the dice but
I’ll take my chances
–
parting clouds-
hoof prints
in the damp soil
in the stinging rain
waiting by the library
for the doors to open
–
sleeping rough-
water from the downspout
soaking his coat
rising from a dream
tasting a memory that’s
almost elusive
–
floating-
beholden to the wind
over a rising sun
