Trains

down along the tracks-
in the distance the fog glows
with a passing train

a waiting owl-
the train echos
through the hollow

Light

a warm autumn glow-
dawn clouds steeped in honey spill
across the ocean

daybreak-
sunlight dances
on the wave tops

Drift

cold morning sunlight-
fruit wood smoke gently rises
from the stone chimney

Not yet risen-
the scent of kona
from the kitchen

Agitation

open before me
the pages of my journal
blank and foreboding

onshore winds-
sand and shells
in the roiling surf

War

documenting war-
pages inked with the spilled blood
of the innocent

shimmering heat –
blood pools
in the desert sand

Luna

the full predawn moon
resting above the changing
autumn canopy

evening chill-
the moon dressed
in alabaster

Fall

an autumn sunset-
the shadow of a goshawk
long on the meadow

oak leaves-
slipping below
a covered bridge

Moonlight

a cool autumn eve
the reclining crescent moon
asleep in the sky

a blue heron-
flying under
the misty moon

Travel

waiting for the train
I stand on the platform near
the other pigeons

misty morning-
migrating geese
return to the sky

Eerie

I can’t sleep at all
visions of the restless dead
inhabit my dreams

moon shadows-
a raven robed
in cobwebs
