Lost

walking the highway-
seems I lost myself while I
was looking for you

sandstorm-
the mirage
an oasis

Cemetery

softly falling rain-
wandering through the graveyard
in the dead of night

overcast-
reading the details
of those long dead

Trapped

in an old wheelchair
a young girl waits deep inside
the shell of herself

first light-
a sliver of dawn
beneath the door

Death

days slowly passing-
the pain of every heartbeat
keeping me alive

raucous crows-
the carcass bears
silent witness

Poverty

broken shower tiles
a bare bulb hangs from a chain
in my one room flat

after last call-
neon signs
light my way home

Gardening

a cutting garden-
in the shade of a straw hat
she tends the flowers

up with the sun-
bent double
pulling weeds

Danger

sitting at the bar-
beautiful and dangerous
death in a red dress

mangrove trees-
crocodiles
come and go

Roses

crimson rose petals
clinging to a withered stem
slowly turning brown

tea rose petals –
the crystal bowl
overflowing

House

an overgrown lawn-
ravens nest in the eaves of
what was once a home

rotting lumber-
vines climb
though the floor

Death

my blood in the sink-
I should be panicking but
I can’t feel the pain

tendrils of fog-
undisturbed by the hooves
of a pale horse
