Steam

the bathroom mirror-
a message written in steam
appears in your hand

starlit noon-
steam pours
from off the rocks

Lightning

low rolling thunder-
lightning crawls across the sky
rattling windows

summer night-
the sky lit by
heat lightning

Sea

offshore thunderstorms-
an old salt returns to the
bosom of the sea

crimson skies
a funeral boat
adrift and alight

Sun

japanese maples-
bright red and amber leaves
burning in the sun

a stand of live oaks-
through the canopy
the setting sun

Missed

the scent of your hair
lingering on my pillow
greets me with the dawn

daybreak-
my arm draped around
your missing waist

Trash

trash cans at the curb
the stars at my back as I
walk back up the drive

upended bins-
a bandit masked
in the moonlight

Depression

moving through aspic
living just outside of time
tired and alone

persistent rain-
a raven just
beyond the glass

Memorial

it’s far too simple-
these old men send the sons of
others to their deaths

a spring breeze-
the fog of war
swept out to sea

Wind

wind rustles the leaves
and coaxes a dryad’s song
of spring from the trees

whispers-
forest giants
shake off the cold

Wolf

wolves of stone and snow
insubstantial in the light
of the forest moon

rising embers-
mournful howling
in the distance
