Insomnia

staring at the clock
waiting an eternity
for the time to change

my mind’s ear-
wide awake
in the dark

Liar

a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light

silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths

Eve

pumpkins on the porch-
fall winds whisper through the night
welcoming the frost

evening winds-
the waltzing of
fallen leaves

Fog

a hillside cottage-
the morning sun clears the clouds
asleep on the roof

first starlight-
fog creeps in
from the underbrush

Rain

staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog

scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late

Obsolete

emerging starlight-
walking past the coal stained homes
the old lamplighter

freshly cut grass-
rusted ice tongs
in the tool shed

Thunder

early autumn storms-
dark roiling thunderclouds vent
their mottled fury

distant thunder-
a cloud of starlings
darken the sky

Evensong

low waning daylight-
songs of bullfrogs and crickets
usher in the night

twilight-
crickets sing
in my footsteps

Forgive

the full solstice moon
begs forgiveness of the sun
for stealing her light

from dust to dust-
the fullness of time
forgives no one

Kristallnacht

pale silver moonlight
captured in the broken glass
strewn across the street

autum eve-
crickets silenced
by shattering glass
