Translucent

grey evening clouds
gauzy and diaphanous
thinly veil the moon

a warm orange glow-
the harvest moon
buried in the clouds

Below

I’m holding my breath-
when I hit bottom I know
you’ll help me exhale

ripples of light-
the water’s surface
far above

Liar

a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light

silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths

Chaos

river clay and dust
takes on a life of its own
much to my chagrin

pounding rain-
the stream a torrent
of mud and debris

Desert

the cruel midday sun-
neat rows of old cars in their
final rusting place

high noon-
steam billows from
my open hood

Forgive

the full solstice moon
begs forgiveness of the sun
for stealing her light

from dust to dust-
the fullness of time
forgives no one

Trains

hanging on a strap-
the city moves beneath me
though I’m standing still

railway sidings-
rusting beasts
long since dead

Regret

living in this house-
a shrine to your past regrets
and those yet to come

low tide-
finding sea glass
and jellyfish

Change

my back turned to you-
pretending to be asleep as
you climb into bed

angry clouds-
blue skies
forgotten

Humanity

we’re only human
well, some of us anyway
the rest who can say?

under the covers
alone with
my mistakes
