Pillars

a symbol of strength
welcoming travelers that
seek her destruction

in the forest
of fallen oaks
a sapling grows

Tao

not quite a woman
and yet no longer a girl
searching for her path

fresh snow
treading lightly
in your footprints

Light

sunflowers in bloom
all turning in unison
to bask in the sun

a salamander
atop a fence post
awaits the dawn

Rebirth

the light of hope shines
across the vastness of space
from a long dead star

a fallen oak
sprouting
shiitakes

Heat

thin tendrils of smoke
weave the final tapestry
of a dying fire

rose petals
still warm from
the evening sun

Impediments

impatient lemmings
craggy rocks block their passage
to the sea below

spring rains
a beaver dam
overflowing

Glimmers

slow rhythmic moonlight
shining across the surface
of a mountain lake

an old rope swings
calm lake water
before the fall

Freedom

white sprays of sea foam
torn loose from the crashing waves
aloft in the wind

open ocean
gulls soaring
into the wind

Present

I can’t remember
dwelling in darkness since I
came into your light

barren trees
stand vigil
awaiting sunrise

Flight

broad wings outstretched
running across the water
before taking flight

rustling leaves
wind mulling over
a goose’s wing
