Somnolent

the hum of the road
whispering it’s lullaby
rocking me to sleep

empty conch shells-
a rush of warm surf
overcomes me

Destination

leave this all behind
take my hand and run with me
into the new dawn

sunrise-
wind blown leaves
cross my path

Smitten

a shy sideways glance
from you in my direction
I’m instantly hooked

september sky-
grass in my hair
you on my mind

Need

lashed tight to the mast-
tempted by the siren song
of just one more drink

steaming pavement-
distant sirens bay
at the full moon

Rhythm

shortening my stride
slowing behind old lovers
walking hand in hand

icy harbor-
the crush of a
rising and falling tide

Age

living with strangers-
years torn from my memory
replayed day by day

dimming light-
a quiet place
to lay my head

Depth

deep meditation-
searching for infinity
by looking within

lotus blossoms-
deeply breathing
the forest peace

Spring

alabaster hills
cherry blossoms harken to
the first blush of spring

snowdrops-
a hint of cherry
on your lips

Guilt

washing and scrubbing
under this scalding water
still I can’t come clean

coal smoke-
a cardinal
on the snow

Weight

machine oiled blued steel
the weight of it heavier
than I expected

ice on the rocks-
another shot
added to my burden
