Rain

drops of quicksilver
balanced precariously
on a blade of grass

stained glass-
the palette
heavy rain

Dreaming

the face of the moon
in the company of stars
greets me as I wake

dream weaving-
pale ghosts of trees
in the moonlight

Blackout

candle lit windows
on the way to Rodanthe
fending off the night

the fire’s glow-
darkness
at my back

Anger

dark clouds veil the sun-
abandoned by my shadow
alone once again

brooding skies-
the scowl of
thunderclouds

Risk

changing directions
deciding my journey starts
were the pavement ends

a cold wind-
stepping out
onto thin ice

Solitude

alone with my thoughts
in the distance barren trees
fade into the mist

before sunrise-
my mug of tea
gently steaming

Disappointment

standing by the sink
staring at my soapy hands
my momentum gone

blinders on-
running headlong
towards a dead end

Dirifting

intently watching
as the castle in the sky
slowly drifts apart

drifting snow-
together leading
separate lives

Desert

ghosts walk the streets of
an abandoned mining town
out of the shadows

desert shade-
sand dancing
across the road

Translucent

anger in the air
reflections in the window
barely ghosts of us

cat tails-
the calm surface
minnows just below
