Vapors

a flame extinguished-
I conjure up the darkness
to reclaim your soul

whisps of smoke-
a mirror
in the dark

Morning

darling snooze button-
I could not cherish more your
extra eight minutes

incessant buzzing-
as day breaks
so do I

Spring

a patchwork of blue-
clouds thread their way through branches
awaiting new growth

a taste of green-
daffodils pierce
the quilted snow

Dark

bedding down the coals-
the warm glow of the campfire
keeps the wolves at bay

the full worm moon-
glowing yellow orbs
in the shadows

Senses

sight not born of eyes-
I see every detail of
the shape of your soul

winter morning-
the smell of your pipe
still lingers

Wounded

against my interests-
I trade away my future
in lieu of my soul

a piercing gaze-
my breast
laid bare

Awake

slowly cooling sheets
echoes of the alarm clock-
bare traces of you

cold sunrise-
I wake up
alone

Tarn

the forest silent-
a skeletal hand rises
from the black water

winter’s death-
dwelling beneath
dark brackish waters

Hiking

afternoon sunlight
casting long winter shadows
through the evergreens

woodland trails-
a scrim of ice
underfoot

Southwest

terra cotta bricks-
the desert sunset lights up
an old bell tower

adobe twilight-
the slowly cooling
desert sand
