Separation

ashes and embers-
my gentle caress lingers
barely on your lips

cold glass-
the distance
of your touch

Life

this life all too brief-
a freshly fallen snowflake
melting in my hand

rebirth-
spring sky in
a robin’s egg

Leaves

tattered autumn lace
drifting in the morning air
lofted by the breeze

leaf litter-
tulip poplars
shed their skin

Penance

mired in the past
endlessly forced to repeat
the sins of my youth

born of fire-
ashes rise
into the night

Candle

stone walls and dirt floors-
candle flames cling to their wicks
throwing dark shadows

straw bedding-
a tallow candle’s
uneasy light

Sniper

a callous wind blows
through the cracks in these old bones
and broken windows

rusty mountains-
poppy fields in
a sniper’s scope

Rise

autumn morning light
wanders in through the curtains-
your slow even breath

darkness-
waking to
a sudden rain

Frost

icy autumn breath
a sliver of the full moon
gazes down on me

morning run-
frozen leaves
crunch underfoot

Sunlight

sensing acceptace
evil walks in the daylight
no longer afraid

sunlight-
insects scatter
from prying eyes

Dawn

waiting for the sun
thready morning clouds make way
for her arrival

open windows-
awake before
the alarm
