Suppression

deafening silence
our civil ramparts falling
amidst the chaos

spring rain-
roaring floods muted
underwater

Weight

machine oiled blued steel
the weight of it heavier
than I expected

ice on the rocks-
another shot
added to my burden

Echoes

I still feel you here
disturbing the emptiness
well after you’re gone

thunderclouds-
hard rain off
the tin roof

Destiny

the hand of Moira
pulling taught a strand of fate
prior to the cut

cloudless night-
death comes
on silent wings

Depression

gaping in the gloom
taking perverted pleasure
in bringing me down

pewter skies-
cold rain drips
off the rusted roof

Perspective

looking at myself
amid the twisted wreckage
of my ruined car

mourning doves-
lost in the white
of the winter sky

Murder

horror on parade
the fires of war march on while
death wields the baton

a murder of crows-
five men lower
their rifles

Truth

dark autumn’s collapse
the strongest and tallest trees
were the first to fall

velvet shadows-
deep hollows
where winter lies

Patina

long ago I was
your knight in shining armor
now I’m just tarnished

rusted hinges-
an old mare
out to pasture

Vision

my view, distorted
looking up from the bottom
of this hole I’ve dug

a rimy pond-
peering up through
frozen cataracts
