Extinguished

freshly turned earth falls
from the back of my shovel
burying the light

overcast skies-
a tenuous flame
turns to smoke

Gift

you are my center-
the sky above my head and
ground beneath my feet

autumn leaves-
take from me the
very air I breathe

Collection

melting chips of ice
droplets chase my finger down
the small of your back

a distant tor-
morning dew bends
the desert grass

Troublefree

The sun sinking low
With only a few breaths left
I’m not wasting them

midnight-
skinny dipping
without a care

Destination

leave this all behind
take my hand and run with me
into the new dawn

sunrise-
wind blown leaves
cross my path

Passing

whole conversations
pass with just a knowing glance
incomplete silence

a heartbeat-
one moment
our lifetime

Nectar

fresh blood on my lips
my kiss, a thief in the night
stealing your warm breath

ruby throat, emerald wings-
sliding in and out of
warm honeysuckles

Regrets

the final door closed
all the words you wouldn’t hear
and now never will

sudden frost-
orange blossoms
wither and brown

Need

lashed tight to the mast-
tempted by the siren song
of just one more drink

steaming pavement-
distant sirens bay
at the full moon

Age

living with strangers-
years torn from my memory
replayed day by day

dimming light-
a quiet place
to lay my head
