Injustice

drowning each of us
in the blood of our comrades
within sight of shore

tulips blossom-
death takes no heed
upon who’s grave

Awake

my rhododendrons-
robins erupt into song
just before the dawn

the sun rises-
heedless of the
whiskey and beer

Soul

as I leave this world
I pour my soul into you-
one last parting gift

out of the fire-
a perfect vessel
cracked

Sleep

your hand grasps my thumb-
our breathing becomes one as
sleep takes you away

post bottle-
a twitch wakes you
for just a moment

Sleep

the blankets askew-
as you start to fall asleep
we share the same breath

dream talking-
I lie beside you
and listen

Nightmare

white foam at her lips-
on ebon hooves she gallops
through the endless night

riderless-
the bearer of
secret horrors

Mortality

much more so than life
death will be my defining
characteristic

a cold rain
the bus arrives
to take me back home

Vapors

a flame extinguished-
I conjure up the darkness
to reclaim your soul

whisps of smoke-
a mirror
in the dark

Wounded

against my interests-
I trade away my future
in lieu of my soul

a piercing gaze-
my breast
laid bare

Tarn

the forest silent-
a skeletal hand rises
from the black water

winter’s death-
dwelling beneath
dark brackish waters
