Sleep
the blankets askew-
as you start to fall asleep
we share the same breath
–
dream talking-
I lie beside you
and listen
the blankets askew-
as you start to fall asleep
we share the same breath
–
dream talking-
I lie beside you
and listen
honeysuckle winds
blowing through the fresh linens
hanging on the line
–
an evening walk-
the perfume of
my neighbor’s grill
a cricket’s chorus-
mercury and venus lost
amid the fireflies
–
emergent dusk-
spatters of light
in the new grass
a sheltered hollow-
in the footsteps of winter
the last melting snow
–
mid april-
morning grass
crusted with snow
white foam at her lips-
on ebon hooves she gallops
through the endless night
–
riderless-
the bearer of
secret horrors
footprints in the sand-
the incoming tide covers
any trace of me
–
amid the leaves-
an adder’s
shed skin
sleep winds through the trees-
a woodland lullaby of
peepers and croakers
–
a veil of clouds-
crickets and frogs
escort the moon
social distancing-
tulip blossoms pay no heed
to the fall of man
–
robin’s song-
mankind’s
lament
softly glowing coals-
the gentle curve of your hips
make the snow drifts blush
–
afternoon sun-
rising streams
of snow melt
the day’s writing gone-
a vast expanse of paper
waiting on the muse
–
pen to paper-
the clock again
rolls over
