Azrael

wandering the earth
easing pain and suffering
collecting last breaths

a copse of trees-
bones
amid the litter

Ruin

shellshocked and bleeding-
wandering the husk of a
demolished building

floating ash-
Nothing left but
deafening silence

Lake

misty morning run-
lake water rolls off the bow
oars dipping in sync

fingers entwined-
a light rain
ripples

Gaia

scrub trees, weeds and vines
she reasserts her claim on
the urban landscape

pottery shards-
new growth rooted
in broken asphalt

Sea

salty air, your hair
blown about your face by the
wind off the water

rising smoke-
below decks
on the ferry.

Frustration

my anger rising
holding back my tongue
while I try to breathe

irritation –
ring tails slip
into the shadows

Darkness

working down towards
the bottom of a bottle
searching for solace

after the rain-
a raven
hewn from coal

Wedding

the new morning star
betrothed to the coming dawn
dancing with the moon

warm spring sun-
a beaming bride
under a shower of rice

Shoreline

at the water’s edge
cattails and reeds bend leeward
softening the shore

the great salt marsh-
a blue heron wading
intently focused

Rising

staying up all night
just to fall asleep with you
and the breaking dawn

frogs in the trees-
rising woodsmoke
staining the sunset
