Thirst
palm leaves shade the sand-
reclining in a chaise lounge
drinking in the sun
–
salt air-
margaritas
whet my dreams
palm leaves shade the sand-
reclining in a chaise lounge
drinking in the sun
–
salt air-
margaritas
whet my dreams
strange and foreign shores-
weary travelers embark
on their next journey
–
soft underbrush-
a fawn turns to the
welcoming sun
a warm autumn glow-
dawn clouds steeped in honey spill
across the ocean
–
daybreak-
sunlight dances
on the wave tops
open before me
the pages of my journal
blank and foreboding
–
onshore winds-
sand and shells
in the roiling surf
the living desert-
waves carried across the sand
by wind on the dunes
–
tumbleweeds-
a mindless expanse
of lifeless sand
a beacon unlit
the lighthouse tender starts the
long journey upwards
–
your hot breath-
the birth of
a new flame
at work dreaming of
a caribbean romance
before summer ends
–
a dockside bar
rum runners and
buffet tunes
a horseshoe crab shell
empty in the shadow of
an upturned rowboat
–
moonlit surf-
the lifeguard tower
stands empty
the sea in the wind
salt, sand, and tropical sun
tangled in her hair
–
amid the waves-
she watches ships
ply her waters
down by the river
releasing slights collected
after all these years
–
on my back-
the weight of countless
grains of sand
