Fatalism

I wake intent on
fighting an uphill battle
I know I will lose

high tide
a turtle shell
lies empty

Communion

iPhone vibrating
mocking my attempt to be
at one with nature

meditation
water threading
between my toes

Mirage

a mirror’s surface
where the water meets the shore
ripples in the wind

cat tails
growing in and
out of the water

Surf

waves topped by whitecaps
crash onto the jetty far
below my window

breaking waves-
ocean and shore
sotto voce

Tides

slow ocean waves
push the gathering sea foam
gently into shore

murmuring-
the ocean whispers
to the shore

Caution

semaphore flags snap
high in the ominous sky
double back and red

a tempest-
warning flags
flying high

Solitude

Waves crash on the shore
As uncounted grains of sand
Sift through my fingers

Treasure

Winter shore winds blow
Swirling my daughter’s hair as
We search for sea glass

Waves

Ripples of dreams lap
Against the shores of the night
Lulling me to sleep

Beach

Sunset on the dunes
Sibilant whispers whirl from
The wind in the reeds
