Redemption
clinging to the flames
my mortal sins escape me
carried by the wind
–
absolution
casting bread
upon the water
clinging to the flames
my mortal sins escape me
carried by the wind
–
absolution
casting bread
upon the water
luminous, rising
from below an ebony lake
in her hand, a sword
–
sunlit hillsides
shadows rolling
slowly to the shore
awash in the tide
a ruined galleon lists
her cannons askew
–
prevailing winds
limping home
on torn sails
as dawn approaches
the breath of autumn whispers
in the swirling leaves
–
barefoot at dawn
walking in the surf
I draw you closer
at the marsh’s edge
flat water just visible
between the rushes
–
cat tails
swaying in
the salt breeze
slow rhythmic moonlight
shining across the surface
of a mountain lake
–
an old rope swings
calm lake water
before the fall
white sprays of sea foam
torn loose from the crashing waves
aloft in the wind
–
open ocean
gulls soaring
into the wind
broad wings outstretched
running across the water
before taking flight
–
rustling leaves
wind mulling over
a goose’s wing
a resting mayfly
the dimples in the water
signaling a carp
–
spreading ripples
a gossamer wing
on the surface
as I drive away
another grain of sand falls
in my life’s hourglass
–
walking the shore
the sand moves
beneath our feet
