Firewood
steel axe and wedges-
an awful lot of effort
for a pile of wood
–
first snow-
chipmunks bedded
in the wood pile
steel axe and wedges-
an awful lot of effort
for a pile of wood
–
first snow-
chipmunks bedded
in the wood pile
thanksgiving morning-
a rafter of wild turkeys
wander through my yard
–
november frost-
a fresh dusting
of fallen leaves
an old masters hand-
long unused sable brushes
come back to life
–
hazy morning-
blobs of white
dot the hillside
a weathered park bench
waiting on the bus a child
takes the time to sit
–
early afternoon-
pigeons gather by
an empty bench
hourglass summer-
memories of time we spent
slip through my fingers
–
driftwood-
a gull’s shadow
passes by
silvery fingers-
the moon I plucked from the sky
safe in my pocket
–
crescent moon-
silver fish swim
among the stars
grey evening clouds
gauzy and diaphanous
thinly veil the moon
–
a warm orange glow-
the harvest moon
buried in the clouds
curling ocean waves-
the blackbird’s white feathered wings
touch an azure sky
–
glass dipped in frost-
a magpie taps
at my window
wild racing thoughts-
my fix is the sleep I so
desperately crave
–
an open window-
coyotes call out
in the rising dawn
a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light
–
silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths
