Kindness

she gives him her name-
for a just moment they share
their humanity

snow covered sidewalk-
she wraps her dog
in the blanket

Storm

black feathers gleaming
the final drop of rain falls
from a raven’s beak

a tempest-
swirls of cream
in my coffee

Were

the silver wolf moon-
in truth I’ll beg no solace
until the sunrise

so many people-
at lunch in the park
he yearns for the moon

Pond

a grove of white oaks
standing in a flooded field-
leafless in summer

silver on black-
the koi swim
in the moon

Christmas

winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche

christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed

Cacophony

past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans

over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens

Consciousness

a coyote’s howl-
I walk out of my own skin
and right into yours

afloat-
my body below
an anchor

Dusk

the sun bows her head-
day gives way to nightfall by
the ascendant moon

twilight-
fireflies call out
to emerging stars

Sandy_Hook

blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness

crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves

Wind

cold wind in my face-
through watering eyes I watch
hawks soar overhead

pure joy-
jowls flapping
in the slipstream
