Kindness
she gives him her name-
for a just moment they share
their humanity
–
snow covered sidewalk-
she wraps her dog
in the blanket
she gives him her name-
for a just moment they share
their humanity
–
snow covered sidewalk-
she wraps her dog
in the blanket
black feathers gleaming
the final drop of rain falls
from a raven’s beak
–
a tempest-
swirls of cream
in my coffee
the silver wolf moon-
in truth I’ll beg no solace
until the sunrise
–
so many people-
at lunch in the park
he yearns for the moon
a grove of white oaks
standing in a flooded field-
leafless in summer
–
silver on black-
the koi swim
in the moon
winter-fat raccoons
take refuge from the snow in
an abandoned crèche
–
christmas eve-
the snow on my roof
again undisturbed
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
a coyote’s howl-
I walk out of my own skin
and right into yours
–
afloat-
my body below
an anchor
the sun bows her head-
day gives way to nightfall by
the ascendant moon
–
twilight-
fireflies call out
to emerging stars
blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness
–
crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves
cold wind in my face-
through watering eyes I watch
hawks soar overhead
–
pure joy-
jowls flapping
in the slipstream
