Sun shower

dripping maple leaves-
raucous jays chase each other
through the sun shower

sunlit paving stones-
light rain ripples
transient puddles

Sunday

warm morning birdsong-
my love asleep next to me
aglow in the sun

robin song-
curtains sway in
the morning breeze

Evening

under a clear sky-
if only this cloud of gnats
would leave me in peace

venus rising-
our picnic blanket
wet with dew

Spring

crimson in the sun-
the first cardinal of spring
on my garden gate

april morning-
daffodils
in the rain

Sleepless

on the edge of sleep-
hours before my alarm rings
each noise a crisis

suddenly awake-
a murderer
or my cat?

Firefly

a cricket’s chorus-
mercury and venus lost
amid the fireflies

emergent dusk-
spatters of light
in the new grass

Nightwings

on reticent wings
under cover of darkness-
silently hunting

liquid moon-
a stream of bats
flows through the night sky

Grind

reaching from behind
the hands at his neck slowly
loosening his tie

watching ants-
his entire life
buttoned down

Showers

steam on the asphalt-
an early afternoon rain
slowly departing

evening rain-
a barn owl waits
in a hollow tree

resonance

a moss covered oak-
the sound of a woodpecker
hollow in the trees

echoes of prayer bells-
an ancient shrine
forgotten
