Rain
becoming August
fevered skin, heat lightning, and
the promise of rain
–
an azure pond-
fish break the surface
amid the evening rain
becoming August
fevered skin, heat lightning, and
the promise of rain
–
an azure pond-
fish break the surface
amid the evening rain
sitting on the dock
losing patience waiting for
my ship to come in
–
a cold hard rain-
the dog brings
her leash
on the precipice
staring out into the void
and back at myself
–
barren branches-
a great horned owl
spreads her wings
awash in the surf
my toes buried in the stars
strewn across the sky
–
ebb tide-
crushed shells
and hermit crabs
down by the lakeside
a skein of migrating geese
glide in for a rest
–
hot pavement-
the roar of flight
fills my ears
walking in the snow
grinning as you casually
step in my footprints
–
robin tracks-
early spring
snowfall
by the temple gates
burning incense left as a
simple offering
–
hot springs-
steam rising from
the snow monkeys
splintering sunlight
broad winter shadows reaching
out across the lea
–
fresh snow-
a smattering
of paw prints
waiting for the thaw
beneath fallen leaves and snow
a box turtle sleeps
–
frosted windows-
deeply burrowed
under blankets
the low midday sun
shadows of geese noiselessly
passing overhead
–
dancing water
a clingy black shift
of morning ice
