Conflict

the scars on your soul-
mementos of battles fought
but never quite won

broken silence-
the distant crash
of rutting bucks

Reflections

look into my eyes
and you can see your beauty
just the way I do

soaring gulls-
the ocean leans in
to kiss the sky

Youth

staring at myself
the mirror reflecting my
wasted innocence

shoeless-
a ragged doll
on dusty road

Tracks

walking in the tide
my temporary footprints
too soon forgotten

gentle flurries-
fresh tracks lead
to the birdbath

Singular

a single starling
adrift in the sea of sky
searching for it’s flock

rolling sea foam-
venus takes her place
in the darkening sky

Lines

night in the forest
an passing train rumbling
off in the distance

distant music-
blackbirds perched
on power lines

Need

lashed tight to the mast-
tempted by the siren song
of just one more drink

steaming pavement-
distant sirens bay
at the full moon

Serenity

gossamer weavings-
drops of early morning dew
snare the rising sun

birdsong-
the stillness
of false dawn

Evening

sunset through the trees
one final glory beneath
the coming of night

rising shadows-
silhouettes against
the dusky sky

Guilt

washing and scrubbing
under this scalding water
still I can’t come clean

coal smoke-
a cardinal
on the snow
