Frustration
my anger rising
holding back my tongue
while I try to breathe
–
irritation –
ring tails slip
into the shadows
my anger rising
holding back my tongue
while I try to breathe
–
irritation –
ring tails slip
into the shadows
bright may afternoons-
the vibrant splash of dogwoods
warm suburban yards
–
cirrus clouds-
among the flowers
surreptitious bees
time draws to a close-
I hold his hand, helping him
walk across this bridge
–
a pale horse-
the onus
of these souls
a prairie sunrise-
rails rolling past my window
into the distance
–
crickets-
the silence of
a passing train
always by my side
the mother of my children
the love of my life
–
woven grass-
the sparrow
steadfast
working down towards
the bottom of a bottle
searching for solace
–
after the rain-
a raven
hewn from coal
along the roadside-
once a stately facade, now
a pile of old stones
–
gentle rain-
crows perch upon
a weathered grave
at the water’s edge
cattails and reeds bend leeward
softening the shore
–
the great salt marsh-
a blue heron wading
intently focused
staying up all night
just to fall asleep with you
and the breaking dawn
–
frogs in the trees-
rising woodsmoke
staining the sunset
on a sea of glass-
the wind, a fickle mistress
abandoning me
–
moonless sky-
wolves howling
into the wind
