Distortion

a toad on his throne
surrounded by those mirrors
that show him a prince

rain streaked windows-
the world outside
distorted

Loss

hug your children tight
for tonight there are parents
who won’t get that chance

barren trees-
young branches
devoid of leaves

Departure

the sliding doors shut
as the train pulls away I’m
still on the platform

changing winds-
the last robin
takes wing

Morning

our fingers entwined-
the dusky blush of daybreak
mirrored in your face

the rising sun-
my finger traces
along your lips

Bird

tufts of rabbit fur
strewn across the forest floor
beneath the owls nest

burning sands-
the condor casts
a broad shadow

Horses

stallions in the sky
rearing out of boiling clouds
thunder through the night

late fall snow-
wild horses fade
into the woods

Road

bored eyes unfocused
staring out the car window
the guardrail floating

migrating geese-
an endless river
of taillights

Cats

the wind plays a cat
unravelling skeins of snow
as I walk along

the wee hours-
between my legs
a sleeping cat

Ice

silver cormorants
standing by the melting edge
of a frozen lake

snowfall-
koi slowly swim
beneath a skin of ice

First Date

driving home alone
all the while the taste of you
lingers on my tongue

an awkward kiss-
moths flutter
near the porch light
