Dawn
shadows of the moon
climbing down from the treetops
to hide from the sun
–
lakeside dawn-
eider ducks
begin to stir
shadows of the moon
climbing down from the treetops
to hide from the sun
–
lakeside dawn-
eider ducks
begin to stir
in a copper bowl
beneath a blooming dogwood
a robin splashes
–
sudden showers-
a crow flies
through the rain
one hapless squirrel-
suddenly half the city
plunged into darkness
–
pulling weeds-
squirrels drop acorns
on my head
a dandelion seed
lazily drifts through the sky
as I watch the clouds
–
freshly cut grass-
making sculptures
from the clouds
reliving the past
what lengths I wouldn’t go to
for absolution
–
dogwood blossoms-
blue jays raid
a sparrow nest
a thick veil of clouds-
the lullaby of crickets
sung beneath the rain
–
predawn fog-
a vixen’s cry
heralds the sun
thin fringes of white
ring the brow of the mountain
furrowed by the past
–
white cliffs-
the sun glints
off the sea spray
blackbirds in the trees-
pebbles left on your headstone
in remembrance
–
knees in the soft earth-
I clear away
the weeds and leaves
frosted azure skies-
the curves of a white dragon
taken by the wind
–
pencil thin clouds-
the ocean reaches out
to touch the sky
atop cotton sheets
the drone of the ceiling fan
keeping me awake
–
sleeping dogs-
paddle fans spin
in lazy circles
