Cacophony
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness
–
crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves
sleep clouding my eyes
I drive into the sunrise-
a cold autumn moon
–
cold dark morn-
torn from the womb
of my comforter
wild racing thoughts-
my fix is the sleep I so
desperately crave
–
an open window-
coyotes call out
in the rising dawn
a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light
–
silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths
staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog
–
scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late
Truth
pale silver moonlight
captured in the broken glass
strewn across the street
–
autum eve-
crickets silenced
by shattering glass
in the western sky
the sun sets on iron clouds
promising thunder
–
leaves in the wind-
the low rumble
of distant thunder
patiently waiting-
at the terminal rain sheets
down tinted windows
–
autumn evening-
once again
I’m alone
