Cacophony

past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans

over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens

Sandy_Hook

blinded by the pain-
your small hand comes to guide me
out of the darkness

crystal sky-
the sudden flight
mourning doves

Early

sleep clouding my eyes
I drive into the sunrise-
a cold autumn moon

cold dark morn-
torn from the womb
of my comforter

Awake

wild racing thoughts-
my fix is the sleep I so
desperately crave

an open window-
coyotes call out
in the rising dawn

Liar

a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light

silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths

Rain

staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog

scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late

Kristallnacht

pale silver moonlight
captured in the broken glass
strewn across the street

autum eve-
crickets silenced
by shattering glass

Storm

in the western sky
the sun sets on iron clouds
promising thunder

leaves in the wind-
the low rumble
of distant thunder

Travel

patiently waiting-
at the terminal rain sheets
down tinted windows

autumn evening-
once again
I’m alone
