Injustice

drowning each of us
in the blood of our comrades
within sight of shore

tulips blossom-
death takes no heed
upon who’s grave

Memorial

shadows of small flags-
with a bouquet of flowers
she runs to your grave

mourning doves-
the young man
on the mantle

Awake

my rhododendrons-
robins erupt into song
just before the dawn

the sun rises-
heedless of the
whiskey and beer

Relationship

life gets in the way-
in my haste I neglected
to say I love you

shifting skies-
one simple
phone call

Blindness

dusting the knickknacks-
doing my best to ignore
the crumbling walls

afternoon light-
fresh paint on
cracked concrete

Evening

under a clear sky-
if only this cloud of gnats
would leave me in peace

venus rising-
our picnic blanket
wet with dew

DaylightSavings

late winter sunlight-
dawn paints my bedroom walls gold
an hour too early

almost spring-
awake before
my coffee pot

Travel

married to the road-
leaving you for months on end
for my asphalt bride

ragtop down-
the highway
a siren’s song

Wounded

against my interests-
I trade away my future
in lieu of my soul

a piercing gaze-
my breast
laid bare

Cats

hackles standing up
prowling the streets in darkness
looking for a fight

captured moonlight-
eyes blazing
in the dark
