Anger

dark clouds veil the sun-
abandoned by my shadow
alone once again

brooding skies-
the scowl of
thunderclouds

Disappointment

standing by the sink
staring at my soapy hands
my momentum gone

blinders on-
running headlong
towards a dead end

Translucent

anger in the air
reflections in the window
barely ghosts of us

cat tails-
the calm surface
minnows just below

Departed

the time worn tombstones
children taken far too soon
their stories untold

a cardinal takes wing-
poppy blossoms
in the church yard

Addiction

dwelling in the past-
bricked up in this house of pain
my arm, my jailer

a wasp’s sting-
repeated lies
no longer told

Commitment

acrid smoke rising
the ruins of our marriage
burned and smoldering

twilight-
our wedding vows
worn and tarnished

Memories

faces of the dead
constantly with me waiting
for my eyes to close

lost souls-
the silence
of the fen

History

an aging oak tree-
all our sins laid bare beneath
the outstretched branches

a shoe in the grass-
the tire swing
motionless

Storm

the sky badly bruised
sitting beneath the mottled
colors of sundown

roiling-
iron clouds
hanging low

Fire

the burning forests-
gaia’s tears turn to embers
borne off by the wind

peals of thunder-
rain falling
on a wild fire
