Homecoming

canadian geese
on the way to warmer climes-
cloudless autumn sky

mottled light-
kits in their den
below the forest floor

Red

early may morning-
cardinals flit among the
forsythia blooms

noonday sun-
ripe strawberries
hiding in the shade

Wasted

nose against the glass
looking through my reflection
at life passing by

still water-
echos of
narcissus

Mortality

pale whispers of men
pass by along the river
rowing in silence

walking stick in hand-
my footprints
fading

Depression

sharing in your pain-
my heart and soul wrapped around
your weary shoulders

staring at the floor-
the world rolls past
my window

Leaving

whispering my name-
the last word upon your lips
before you leave me

peeling paint-
the swinging gate
at my back

Spring

an early robin-
lichen covered granite steps
cut into the hill

holly berries-
amid the ivy
a cardinal

Puppeteer

up above the fray
just outside of the spotlight
he tugs on the strings

a rumpled hat-
his marionette dances
for loose change

Memories

in the dark shadows
cobwebs cling to memories
of a distant past

winter stubble-
remnants of
my father

Seasons

a stash of acorns
squirreled away for safekeeping
in a hollow tree

bird feeder-
spring daffodils
seek the sun
